The Ministry of Natural Resources in the Bracebridge-Minden-Parry Sound district has issued a water safety bulletin, which is in effect until Friday, July 5.

This bulletin affects residents in portions of the District of Parry Sound, the District of Muskoka, the County of Haliburton, and the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Between June 21 and 23, these watersheds received between 50 and 100 mm of rainfall. The influx of rain has resulted in water levels and river flows rising above their normal ranges for this time of year. High water flows and deeper than normal water levels can pose a risk to boaters, swimmers, anglers, and other individuals spending time near or on the water.

Flooding is not expected, however low-lying areas can be affected to varying degrees as they are more prone to flooding. Residents and visitors to these areas should exercise caution and monitor changing conditions. It is recommended that residents in areas affected by high water conditions in the past should take necessary precautions to protect any vulnerable property in proximity to rivers and lakes. Extreme caution should be exercised on forest access roads as they can become inundated with water and are prone to washouts.

River flows and lake levels are expected to stabilize and decline over the next week as rainfall decreases, limiting the runoff entering waterbodies.
