On Saturday June 24, Parks Canada hosted an event for Canada 150 called the Lock ‘n’ Paddle. Canoeists were invited to paddle the Trent-Severn Waterway to the Peterborough Lift Lock, the highest lift lock in the world when it was unveiled in 1904.
Building off the success of last year’s event—they set a record for 138 boats in each tub—Parks Canada wanted to tailor the event to Canada’s 150th celebrations. As you can see from these stunning photos, people were into the idea.

The goal was to get 150 canoes in each tub, but final numbers ended up being 162 in the west tub and 166 in the east.
With a round of “O Canada” and “Happy Birthday,” this crowd broke the record for Lock 21.
