A 1950s cabin gets a bright, inviting makeover

The cabin and guest house is located on Copake Lake, which is just a 20-minute drive from both the Hudson Valley and the Berkshires. Although the cabin looks rustic on the outside, it’s interior has been lovingly updated.

The main floor of the cabin contains a kitchen and dining area, as well as a living room. The cabin is clad in white panelling and has blonde hardwood throughout, a combination that feels very contemporary. We love the look of the farmhouse-style table paired with fun, modern chairs. On the second floor, there’s a loft space that offers a great view of the lake. 


This living room is located opposite the kitchen. Rustic, homey accents, like the fur rugs and leather chairs, make the space feel warm and inviting. The stone fireplace looks original from the 1950s.

Check out this light-filled principal bedroom! Along with large windows, two skylights bring into extra sunshine. To highlight the detailing along the ceiling, the panes were painted a soft grey.

This bunk room in the main cabin has four single beds. To make the most of the space, the bunks were built into the wall—which makes it look like beds on a ship!

The guesthouse is located a short distance from the main cabin. The laundry room is located on the main floor and the bedroom and washroom are on the second. The large balcony is the best way to take in the sunset.

Although the guesthouse was built around 30 years after the main cabin, the 2014 renovations ensured the two spaces matched aesthetically. And just like in the main cabin, there are plenty of charming details here too, from the wooden trunk and the vintage light fixtures, to the graphic bed linens and rustic side table.
