This converted school bus is letting one couple cross the continent in style

With limited space on-board, Justine and Ryan use the top of the bus as a spot to store bikes and their canoe. Simple slats of wood on the side of the bus act as a ladder to the roof, and a crane is used to unload the big items.

It’s hard to believe this bright, beautiful space was once a school bus! Along one side of the bus is the kitchen and living area, which features a custom-built sofa that doubles as a storage unit, while a small dining area is on the opposite wall. By painting the walls and ceiling a crisp white, the interiors feel much more spacious.

The tiny kitchen is equipped with a two-burner oven and stove, plus a sink that’s just big enough to handle dishes for two. With only a couple drawers and one cupboard, most kitchen supplies are stored in the open shelf tucked underneath the ceiling.

For most people who decide to live minimally, books would be the first thing to ditch. That’s not the case for Justine and Ryan. Not only have they filled open shelves with them, they’ve even built a bookshelf to store a few dozen.

Here’s a look at the front of the bus, which the couple left pretty much untouched.

And there’s even more books in the bedroom! Surrounded by windows, this is one of the brightest spots in the bus. Underneath the bed are two more storage cupboards, perfect for storing extra blankets, towels and other linens.

The bus has this bathroom, as well as a small shower stall. As Justine and Ryan write on their website, thanks to a battery bank, solar panels, AC electrical hook ups, and an RV-standard water system, “we take hot showers, eat cooked meals, and generally stay cozy wherever we go.”
