If you’re planning on renting a cottage for the upcoming summer season, the time has almost come and gone to secure your dream vacation spot. Although we’re only a couple of months into the new year, you don’t want to be left in the dust as available cottages are snapped up by renters eager to get a head start on planning their summer getaways. Heather Bayer from CottageLINK Rental Management has some last-minute tips to help find your rental cottage for the summer.

Look for shorter rental stays

As cottages book up for the summer it gets trickier to find rentals available for a week or longer. Try looking for short-term getaways.

Use Canadian rental websites

Try VRBO to track down and book your ideal rental cottage. The prices are in Canadian dollars, helping you accurately budget for your upcoming vacation.

Go to the source—book directly with a cottage owner or cottage rental agency

Avoid steep service charges that can come with renting through some website services by booking with a cottage rental agency or the cottage owner themselves. May is a popular time for new cottage owners to list their rental properties for the upcoming season. By joining a cottage agency mailing list, you’ll stay up-to date on what’s available and be ready to pounce on the rental that catches your eye.

 Pick up the phone

Short on time and looking to lock down your summer vacation plans? Step away from the computer, pick up your phone and call your chosen cottage rental manager. As the summer season approaches cottage rental agencies get busier and busier, and you don’t want to risk waiting for an e-mail response to any urgent questions.
